Summer 2014: Continued Studies of Venice
Working from direct observation, I paint objects in nature that often go overlooked. By magnifying thoughtfully selected fragments of each subject, I remove the objects from their typical context to capture their raw essence. Texture, color, and light drive my compositions, pushing them towards abstraction with an underlying feeling of familiarity. In these selected pieces, I focus on oyster shells found during low tide on tidal islands along the North Carolina Intracoastal Waterway.
